Hotels in Radlek: Bloke Plateau, Trails and Memorial Sites

Radlek is located in the western part of the Bloške planota, the Bloke Plateau. The settlement lies in a small hollow on a saddle between Pogorelec (807 m), Lisec (872 m) and Hrib (805 m). The plateau, hollow and saddle therefore describe a location whose reference points are specified by three names and elevations.

Nature

A gentle, marked hiking trail runs from Radlek to Slivnica. The trail from Radlek to the Dom na Slivnici mountain hut leads to the Dom na Slivnici at an elevation of 1,078 metres. The route to the mountain hut from the Velike Bloke bus stop via Radlek is stated to take two hours. These route connections therefore combine an explicitly stated easy classification with trail markings, a destination with a specified elevation, and access with a stated duration.

The Dom na Slivnici mountain hut has an e-bike charging station and a repair station. The mountain hut has ten rooms with a total of 37 beds. The two stations and the number of rooms and beds describe different aspects of the same place without conflating them.

The Via Dinarica is 160 km long and runs from Slivnica via Radlek to Velike Bloke. Radlek lies between the two named places along this route; the sequence therefore identifies the starting point and destination as well as the place in between.

Culture

The Chapel of the Holy Cross stands in Radlek. It is one of the village's named cultural sites and stands alongside the memorials commemorating events and people.

The monument to the twelve hostages in Radlek marks the place where hostages were shot on 13 August 1942. It was unveiled in 1956 and stands on a forest road west of the village.

The memorial plaque for Ivan Furlan-Drago in Radlek commemorates the commander of the Notranjska detachment, who fell in June 1944. It was unveiled in 1996 and is mounted on a natural rock at the western edge of Radlek beside the road. The two memorials can therefore be distinguished by the occasion commemorated, the year of unveiling and their locations.
