The settlement site of Črnomelj has been inhabited, with brief interruptions, for more than 3,000 years. The permanent exhibition of the Črnomelj City Museum collection presents the history of the town, its immediate surroundings and its population through archaeological materials, archival sources, photographs and reconstructions. The collection is housed in the birthplace of the writer Miran Jarc.

Nature
The municipalities of Črnomelj include the Lahinja Landscape Park and the Kolpa Landscape Park, both of which are rich in natural and cultural heritage. Šokčev dvor in Žuniči is an open-air museum and information centre within the Kolpa Landscape Park. By prior arrangement, visitors can take part in workshops on embroidery, the processing of wool and flax, and the making of decorated Easter eggs. The Kolpa Landscape Park offers guided programmes for smaller and larger groups along various routes, explaining the area's natural features, biodiversity and cultural heritage.
The Lahinja Trail is a sustainable event that preserves the unspoilt nature of the Lahinja Landscape Park. The Grajska pešpot hiking trail between Žuniči and Dragoši and the Sejemska pot trail from Vinica to Žuniči also begin in Žuniči.
