Ivančna Gorica: Culture, Landscape and Hotels

Ivančna Gorica is located in the hilly landscape of Dolenjska, halfway between Ljubljana and Novo mesto. Remains of the Roman road Emona–Neviodunum–Siscia can still be seen in the wider area of Ivančna Gorica.

Culture

In the centre of Ivančna Gorica stands the Roman milestone at the intersection of Ljubljanska cesta and Cesta II. grupe odredov. It acquired its present form at the end of the 16th century and is also a symbol on the municipal coat of arms. The Church of Saint Joseph in Ivančna Gorica was consecrated on 2 May 1999.

Stična Cistercian Abbey is the oldest monastery in the territory of Slovenia. The oldest surviving core of the abbey consists of the cloister and the monastery church. Another cultural venue is the Jurčičeva domačija in Muljava. It is an open-air museum that tells stories about the everyday life of the rural population. As a cultural monument, the Jurčičeva domačija preserves central Slovenian rural architecture, the furnishings of residential and farm buildings, tools, as well as the settlement layout. The Jurčičeva domačija also includes a gallery and a summer theatre.

Centre

Ivančna Gorica is located directly on the Ljubljana–Novo mesto railway line. The covered Tržnica Ivančna Gorica is located in the centre of the town. Both locations are clearly named reference points within the centre.

Routes

Športni park Ivančna Gorica covers an area of 19,000 m². A longer route through the municipal area is provided by the “Comfortable and Homelike” circular route: it connects all twelve settlements in the Municipality of Ivančna Gorica. The route can be explored by hiking, running, cycling and horse riding, as well as by car or caravan.

The T12 cycling route “Po rimski cesti nad dolino Krke” also starts in the centre of Ivančna Gorica. It is 24.7 kilometres long, is considered easy and runs over asphalt and gravel. The route’s name also refers to the Roman traces that have remained visible in the wider area.

Krška jama is located above the source of the Krka and is a horizontal cave.
