The Ormož archaeological site is a cultural monument of local significance with visible prehistoric ramparts and ditch systems. The area has been almost continuously inhabited over the past 3,000 years.

Culture

The Church of St Jakob in Ormož contains frescoes dating from around 1400. The northern nave features Renaissance paintings depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments, created after 1632.

The Vuzmetinci – Kapela Matere Božje is a closed chapel dating from the late 18th century. The Vuzmetinci – Kapela Matere Božje contains a 19th-century Pietà sculpture regarded as a high-quality example of folk woodcarving.

Ormož Castle is a 13th-century fortress whose renovated rooms convey its history to visitors.

In the area surrounding the municipality of Ormož are the Church of St. Jerome, a church and attraction, and the State Archives in Medjimurje, an archive.

The exhibitions “Od igrače do žare”, “Srednjeveška plastika z ormoškega območja” and “Lonec lončarja hvali” can be viewed at Grajska Pristava Ormož. Grajska Pristava Ormož is a building that combines several utility buildings from different periods beginning in the 18th century.

Nature

The Temnar vineyard manor house, dating from the mid-18th century, stands at the highest point of the surrounding hills and overlooks its wine-growing surroundings from an elevation of 235 metres.

The Ormož Basins are a 55-hectare wetland and nature reserve in the Drava ecosystem beside Lake Ormož. Water buffalo roam freely in nature in the Ormož Basins and graze along the riverbanks.

Mađerkin Breg is a named geographical feature in the area surrounding the municipality of Ormož and is considered a peak.

Ravna Gora, Dugi Vrh and Furkov Brdo are named geographical features in the wider regional area surrounding the municipality of Ormož and are considered mountains.

Routes

The St Jacob's Route is a medieval pilgrimage route starting in Ormož that can be travelled by bicycle or on foot. There are two variants from Ormož: one leads to Ptuj and the other to Ljutomer.

Sightseeing

Visitors can climb the 45.68-metre-high tower of Ormož Castle and see Ormož, the Drava and Prlekija from there. Ormož Castle offers self-guided visits as well as 60-minute guided tours, including a tour with a film.

Culture and Everyday Life

On Fridays, the Ormož market is a meeting place for authentic local flavours.
