Culture

Sevnica Castle dates back to the 13th century. Guided tours of the castle include the Baroque salon, a collection on Ajdovski Gradec, and the interior of the tower with a fresco of the Four Seasons.

Ajdovski Gradec is a Late Antique and early Christian settlement from the 5th and 6th centuries AD. The surviving and conserved remains form an archaeological park. From a marked car park, Ajdovski Gradec can be reached in about 15 minutes via a well-maintained forest path with a moderate incline.

The Trail of Peasant Revolt runs from Sevnica to Bistrica ob Sotli and follows the traces of a peasant uprising led by Ilija Gregorić.

Nature

The themed circular trail “Forest is Culture†is an 800-metre circular route around Sevnica Castle and combines nature with cultural interpretation. It provides information about more than 36 tree species and passes through a gallery forest protected as a natural monument.

Lisca is a 948-metre-high hill offering views of the Sava Valley and accessible via easier and more challenging routes. Lisca is suitable for paragliding, climbing and, in winter, tobogganing.

The Pot cerkva begins at the Church of Saint Stephen in Vranje nad Sevnico and connects three themed circular trails.

Routes

The Sevnica Sausage is a 100.9-kilometre circular cycling route along the borders of the Municipality of Sevnica. It is divided into a northern and a southern section: the northern section runs along the left bank of the Sava and through the SevniÄna Valley, while the southern section runs along the right bank of the Sava and through the Mirna Valley.

Together, the three circular routes of the Pot cerkva visit 100 churches and 25 castles, castle ruins, manor houses, chapels and mountain peaks in the area between the Savinja, Sava and Sotla rivers.

Gastronomy

The Sevnica Castle Festival traditionally takes place every summer. The Festival modre frankinje is a wine competition with a long-standing tradition, in which winemakers from Blaufränkisch-growing regions participate and whose wines are evaluated by internationally recognised experts.

The APE Brewery produces unfiltered and unpasteurised ales. In Sevnica, the tradition of salami production, maintained for decades, is preserved and passed on by the Društvo salamarjev Sevnica association.
