Moškanjci: Airfield, Pond and Historical Traces

North of the village of Moškanjci lies Moškanjci Airfield. Its grass runway is 1,100 metres long and 100 metres wide. The location north of the village and the clearly specified dimensions give the airfield a concrete spatial and factual framework.

Activities

Visitors can fly in a two-seater glider. The aircraft takes off either by winch launch or aerotow. This involves two different launch methods, while the glider itself is designed for two people.

The Ptuj Aeroclub offers panoramic flights in a motor aircraft over the local area and the surroundings of the airfield. Moškanjci Airfield can be used by hot-air balloons during the day. Another offer enables passengers to jump from a Cessna 206 motor aircraft from an altitude of over 3,000 metres together with an experienced skydiving instructor. Motor aircraft, hot-air balloon and parachute jump thus stand alongside the glider as independent forms of flight operations at the airfield.

Water

Moškanjci Pond is a managed pond where walkers can linger by the water. During the fishing season, recreational fishing is possible on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays with a day fishing permit. At the pond, fishing is permitted exclusively according to the “catch and release” principle.

Several details are therefore decisive for fishing: the fishing season applies, the possibility exists on specific days of the week and public holidays, and a day fishing permit is required. The fishing principle remains limited to “catch and release”. The pond combines time spent by the water with a clearly defined framework for recreational fishing.

Culture

Remains of the Poetovio–Savaria Roman road are still visible in parts of Moškanjci. A Bronze Age sword and a stone battle-axe were found in the area of Moškanjci. The area of Moškanjci contains the names Matečkova Chapel, Vaška–Gečova Chapel and Vnukova Chapel.

The historical traces thus range from remains of a Roman road to archaeological finds from the Bronze Age. This collection is complemented by the names of the three chapels.

Every year on 1 May, the Moškanjci sports club organises a small-sided football tournament in memory of two deceased villagers; on the same day, there is a bonfire with live music. Over the course of its history, the volunteer fire service in Moškanjci organised, among other events, the Lükarski or Kmečki Festival. 1 May thus brings together the tournament, the commemoration, the bonfire and the live music on a set day.

Transport

Moškanjci lies on the railway line passing through the settlements of the Municipality of Gorišnica and has a railway station. From Moškanjci, rail services run westwards towards Ptuj–Pragersko and onwards to Ljubljana or Maribor and Graz. Eastwards, the railway runs towards Ormož.

Both directions are therefore relevant for the geographical classification of rail services: westwards, the aforementioned connections continue via Ptuj–Pragersko to Ljubljana and to Maribor and Graz; eastwards, the line runs towards Ormož. The station belongs to the railway line passing through the settlements of the Municipality of Gorišnica.
