Kumen: The Way to Klopni vrh and the Lovrenško Pohorje

The trail to Klopni vrh is considered easy; the ascent takes 2 hours 30 minutes, and the descent takes 2 hours. Kumen itself is a widely scattered hill settlement in the Lovrenško Pohorje, consisting predominantly of individual farmsteads. The place was first mentioned between 1193 and 1220.

Landscape

The slopes of the Pohorje around Kumen are covered by contiguous, predominantly coniferous forests. Extensive peat bogs lie south of Klopni vrh. Hiking Trail

After crossing the Radoljna, the hiking trail to Klopni vrh follows the slope named after Kumen. It then crosses Turn at an elevation of 1,261 metres and reaches Koča na Klopnem vrhu. On the return journey from Klopni vrh, you can visit a partisan memorial site. From Klopni vrh, the route continues towards Pesek and then to Rogla or the Lovrenška jezera.

Culture and History

In the settlement of Kumen, the project for the first Lovrenško cookbook was proposed and put to a vote. Near a former mountain hut stands a pyramid-shaped monument made of rubble stone, with a star at the top and an embedded commemorative plaque; it was unveiled on 23 August 1956. A monument was erected near the former hospital in 1974. Of the buildings of the former hospital, only reinforced depressions in the ground are visible.
