Ruše: Hotels and accommodations
The Ruška Planinska Pot connects central Pohorje, the Lobnica Gorge, and the Pohorje primeval forest. Anyone wishing to book a hotel can consider Ruše as a specific travel destination.
Nature
The Šumik primeval forest is a strictly protected forest reserve covering 19 hectares, where no logging has ever taken place. Veliki Šumik is 24 meters high.
Falska peč is a unique geological formation in the Drava Valley; remnants of the last Ice Age can be found there. Falska peč is also a habitat of the protected fire lily (Lilium bulbiferum) and Host's saxifrage (Saxifraga hostii).
In the Ruško Pohorje, granite, tonalite, and crystalline schist come to the surface in the gorges of the Lobnica and its tributary, the Verna.
Trails and wine
The Ruška Vinska Pot is a 2.5-kilometer paved circular route. It passes 24 wine cellars, six chapels, a gallery-winery, and an open-air museum of viticulture. Its starting point is next to a 6,000-liter barrel not far from Hotel Veter; every year on Martinovo, the baptism of the young wine takes place there.
The Uršankovo educational forest trail has a short version of 1.3 kilometers and a long version of 3 kilometers. The Pot ob pravljični Lobnici hiking trail is a 10-kilometer challenging hike starting in Smolnik. The Pečke hiking trail begins in Ruše on Areška cesta and leads via Kalvarija and past the Dobnik Cross to the hunting lodge on Pečke.
The Drava Cycling Route passes through Ruše. The green Ruše–Martinca route includes a 3-kilometer walking trail and a 6-kilometer cycling route. Rowing on the Drava is also possible in Ruše.
Culture and history
The Ruše summer theater was built in 1932. The Ruše water tower is listed in the Slovenian Register of Immovable Cultural Heritage.
The 18th-century building next to the church in Ruše, which housed the former Latin school, still stands today. The Latin school of Ruše operated from 1645 to 1760.
The Letni oder Ruše festival takes place every August and includes concerts, theater performances, social events, exhibitions, and culinary offerings. The Glazerjevi dnevi commemorate Janko Glazer and promote musical and literary creativity.
Ruše already existed as a settlement in Celtic and Illyrian times, around 400 BC. The oldest higher-elevation glassworks, Stara glažuta, operated from 1692 to 1793 in the Lobniška Valley above Šumik.
