Alawerdi: Hotels and Accommodation

Anyone wishing to book a hotel in Alawerdi can then continue searching for accommodation. Sanahin Monastery is located within the city limits of Alaverdi. Documentary evidence and material remains suggest that parts of the complex date back to the mid-10th century. Historically, the site was used for the study of the humanities and medicine, as well as for writing scholarly treatises.

Culture and History

The Mikoyan Brothers Museum preserves personal photographs, documents, uniforms, scale models, and aviation exhibits. Outdoors, a restored MiG-21 forms the centerpiece of the exhibition. In Sanahin near Alaverdi, the museum presents the lives of Anastas and Artem Mikoyan and displays a genuine MiG-21 fighter aircraft. The Mikoyan Brothers Museum is a five-minute walk from Sanahin Monastery.

The Alaverdi Art Gallery reopened in 2009 with the exhibition “Armenian Landscape.” It displays works by Seyran Khatlamajian, Arpenik Nalbandian, Lusik Agulec, and Ruben Shahvedyan.

Copper mining and processing are also part of the town’s long history: they have been carried out in Alaverdi since antiquity. The Sanahin Bridge was built in the 12th century by Queen Vaneni in memory of her deceased husband. It is an arch made of dressed basalt, approximately 18.6 meters long and 3.3 meters wide, and a remarkable example of medieval secular architecture.

Alaverdi stretches across both banks of the Debed. Because of the rugged and complex terrain, the city’s neighborhoods are quite far apart.

The Tbilisi–Yerevan railway and the Tbilisi–Alaverdi–Yerevan highway run through Alaverdi.
