Sis: Hotels and Accommodation

Sis is part of an internal tourist route connecting Sis, Keşməddin, Qəleybuğurt, and Qala dərəsi. A local explanation traces the name Sis back to persistent fog over the village.

Nature

Ecotourists and other travelers visit Cangi Forest. The landscapes in the Shamakhi Rayon range from steppe through foothill meadows to forests. The rayon also includes deciduous forests and spring meadows covered with red tulips.

The Pirqulu State Nature Reserve was established in 1968 and initially covered 1,521 hectares. In 2003, it was expanded to 5,000 hectares; in 2006, it was incorporated into Shahdag National Park. More than 50 medicinal plant species have been recorded in the Shamakhi area; the area is also associated with 520 flowering plant species.

Regional Features

The Shamakhi Rayon is one of the important centers of grape cultivation in Azerbaijan. Shamakhi wines received medals and diplomas at international exhibitions.
