Bihać Hotels – History, Una and National Park

Kapetanova kula houses the Museum of the Una-Sana Canton, which displays rare artefacts from the period of the Japod tribes. As a historic building, Kapetanova kula is also listed among the national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Fethija Mosque is an Islamic place of worship in the Gothic style. The mosque, together with its cemetery, nine tombstones and inscriptions, is designated as a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The former Church of Saint Anthony was converted into the Fethija Mosque after the arrival of the Ottomans in 1592. Only the church tower next to the masonry turbe remains. The “Enver Krupić” Gallery displays works by an artist who spent his entire professional life artistically capturing the natural beauty of this area.

The protected monument complex in Bihać includes the monastery building with the convent and school of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, as well as the building where the first AVNOJ session was held, which is now the AVNOJ Museum. The founding and first session of AVNOJ took place in this building on 27 November 1942. The traditional cultural event “Ulicom Bišća” takes place every year, usually in November.

The municipality of Bihać includes other protected historic sites. Sokolac is a protected historic area with a prehistoric hillfort as well as a medieval and Ottoman town. Garavice Memorial Park is designated as a cultural landscape and national monument. Rmanj Monastery in Martin Brod is a protected monument complex with preserved remains of original frescoes.

Štrbački Buk–Lohovo is located within the city of Bihać, inside Una National Park. The zone is assigned to the regulated or active protection category of IUCN Category II. Admission for individual visits includes a full-day visit to the Štrbački Buk–Lohovo visitor zone, as well as use of tourist-signposted roads and paths.

A new car park with 171 spaces for motor vehicles has been established in the visitor zone. Additional areas are intended for toilets as well as mobile tourist and sales facilities. At Entrance No. 5 in Martin Brod, admission includes a visit to Milančev Buk waterfall.

The Bihać City Tourist Board offers “City by Foot and Bike”, an experience that combines nature, history and contemporary life. Bihać is suitable for both mountain biking and road cycling tours. The Una National Park area has cycling routes with varying levels of difficulty.

On the water, the operator Una Adventure offers guided rafting trips on the Una near Bihać. They are suitable for beginners and experienced participants and are accompanied by licensed guides with complete safety equipment. The rafting trip begins below Štrbački Buk waterfall and passes waterfalls, a gorge, caves and dynamic rapids.
