A central place for the city’s history is the Museum of Semberija. It is housed in the oldest building in Bijeljina and has three permanent exhibitions that are open every day throughout the day. The archaeological exhibition comprises material remains from the Neolithic period to the Late Middle Ages. It also includes a collection of 23 medieval Cyrillic inscriptions in Church Slavonic.

The Atik Mosque stands in the centre of Bijeljina. It is presumably considered to have been endowed by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and was restored after 2000. At the same time, it is one of the six official national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Bijeljina. The Church of Saint George is another of the buildings highlighted in Bijeljina. The house of Milenko Atanacković is still preserved; it was the home of the city’s first academically trained painter. The water tower of Bijeljina is regarded as one of the city’s landmarks.

Further traces of the city’s history can be found in Bauer House, which was built in 1909 by one of Bijeljina’s best-known merchant families. The Semberija Cultural Centre includes a multipurpose hall with 350 seats and a stage, as well as the city gallery. There, the cultural centre hosts film screenings, exhibitions, concerts and theatre performances. The Mural Fest is held in Bijeljina year after year and expands the open-air gallery with additional painted city façades.

Several recurring events give public life in Bijeljina its own rhythm. The city hosts the international agricultural fair “Interagro”, which has already been held for the 22nd time and brings together numerous exhibitors, farmers and business representatives year after year. The traditional Savska Regatta is an annual leisure event on the Sava and is organised by the Tourism Organisation of the City of Bijeljina.

The Višnjić Days take place in November, commemorating the epic poet Filip Višnjić. The Pantelinski Days follow at the beginning of August and are dedicated to Bijeljina’s patron saint, Saint Panteleimon. The “Dani meda u Semberiji” is a traditional, recurring honey fair in the centre of Bijeljina. Honey and other honey products are offered there. The wine fair is also part of the region’s events calendar: it was held for the fifth time, with 20 wineries and distilleries as well as cheese producers taking part.

There are 15 cycle paths in the area of the city of Bijeljina. These include the approximately 2.5-kilometre combined footpath and cycle path between Bijeljina and Amajlije. The urban area also contains large underground reserves of geothermal water with a temperature of around 75°C.

Bijeljina City Park has existed for more than 100 years and is one of the largest parks in Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the vicinity of Bijeljina lies Etno Selo Stanišići, a visitor complex in traditional style with around twenty authentic wooden houses, a dairy, a watermill, a forge and a granary. Banja Dvorovi is located six kilometres from Bijeljina. On the Drina, the place offers opportunities for fishing and picnicking.
