Kozarska Dubica on the Una – Culture, Nature and Cycling Route

Kozarska Dubica lies on the banks of the Una and on the slopes of Mount Kozara. Mlječanica, a specialized facility for physical medicine and rehabilitation, is located at a spring.

Nature and Cycling Paths

The banks of the Una are meeting places for people who love nature. Blato Beach is one of the public and private bathing areas on the Una in Kozarska Dubica. The 39.5-kilometer-long Mrakovica–Donja Gradina Memorial Trail also runs through the area around Kozarska Dubica and is suitable for cyclists.

The 30-kilometer-long Kozara Cycling Route connects Kozarska Dubica, Moštanica Monastery and Kozara National Park. The entire route is marked with blue bicycle signs, signposts and boards with a route map. The section between Kozara National Park and Moštanica Monastery has four rest areas and three drinking-water springs.

Culture and History

The townscape includes buildings from the 20th century as well as modern 21st-century architecture. Svetosavska Street, formerly Kralja Aleksandra, has largely retained its authenticity. The Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul is a landmark in Kozarska Dubica.

The Kozarska Dubica National Library exhibits the legacy of Boško Šiljegović, as well as books, magazines, artworks and graphics from the local heritage collection. The permanent exhibition also includes a lithograph by Pablo Picasso from this legacy.

Moštanica Monastery is located in the area around Kozarska Dubica, 12 kilometers south of the town center, next to the Moštanica stream. The first written records of the monastery date back to 1579. Every year on August 19, the Transfiguration of the Lord is celebrated there with “Veče ojkače,” an alternating rendition of traditional folk songs.

The Donja Gradina Memorial Site covers 117 hectares and is located on the right bank of the Sava. It includes an open-air museum that aims to preserve the authenticity of the memorial site with as little intervention in the area as possible.

Water and Events

The three-day international Una Regatta passes through Kozarska Dubica. During the Dubica Regatta, participants travel by boat from Johova to Blato Beach on the Una. Traditionally, the Dubica Regatta ends at Blato Beach with games, dinner and entertainment.

Regional Cuisine and Wine

In the area around Kozarska Dubica, the Banjac family’s rural household in the village of Klekovci offers its own white wine as well as traditional cuisine with cured meat, baked goods, cottage cheese and homemade fruit juice. The household welcomes groups by prior arrangement and has a tasting room for up to 50 visitors.

Podrum Panić Winery is located on the northwestern slopes of Kozara in the municipality of Kozarska Dubica and belongs to the Kozara wine region. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon grow in the Panić vineyard; high-quality wines are produced and aged from these varieties in the cellar.
