Skrebatno: Hotels and Accommodation

The Church of St. Paraskeva in Skrebatno was built in 1835 and is a cultural monument of artistic and historical significance. It is a three-nave pseudo-basilica; the bell tower was added in the 1970s. Its colonnade is decorated with frescoes. The church was renovated in 2021.

A local museum collection is housed in a more than 300-year-old building. The building successively served as an Ottoman administrative residence, a cell school, and a secular school. Exhibits include household items, traditional costumes of Christian and Muslim communities, photographs, documents, and objects from the local history of liberation.

At the traditional St. George’s Day celebration in Skrebatno, visitors may encounter two-part a cappella singing from the Rhodopes, authentic folklore, and a communal feast in the meadows near the village. In Skrebatno, Peperuga refers to a rain-prayer tradition practiced during drought, led by an orphan girl or an adult woman.

Skrebatno is one of the settlements from which the Kaninska Eco Trail can be started. The trail begins on the outskirts of the village, where it is equipped with benches and wooden signposts. The various routes can take approximately two to ten hours.

The Skrebatno–Leshten section leads over a steep, rocky ridge and across a second bridge over the Kanina River. The steep rocky ridge directly below Skrebatno is equipped with stairs, railings, and ropes.

A Roman road once ran above the houses of Skrebatno. At a tourist property at the highest point of the village, there are almost 360-degree views toward the Mesta Valley and the Pirin Mountains.

A cultural tour with a visit to Skrebatno offers local dishes such as sarma and ciganska banitsa, which is filled with grape leaves. A restaurant at a guesthouse in Skrebatno serves homemade mekitsi, local cheese, pine honey, and yogurt.
