Nature

In the wider Gabrovo area, the Vitata Stena eco-trail runs for approximately 8 km each way from Zdravkovets to Yavorets. It is suitable for hiking and cycling and offers views of the surrounding villages and the peaks of the Central Balkan. The Iztochnik–Torbalazhi–Sechen Kamak–Bozhentsi eco-trail is approximately 4.7 km each way and is also suitable for hiking and cycling.

Bulgarka Nature Park protects beech ecosystems, flora, fauna, and the cultural and historical heritage of the central Stara Planina mountain range. Near the Vitata Stena trail are Neolithic caves containing artifacts from people who lived in the area around 6000 BC. Black Cave on the Vitata Stena trail has been identified as a significant underground bat habitat; visits to Black Cave are discouraged during critical periods. The Vitata Stena trail also passes near the remains of the Vitengrad fortress, which is also called Gradat.

Culture and History

The Etar Regional Ethnographic Open-Air Museum preserves Bulgaria's only collection of water-powered technical installations. There, artisans make and sell items in front of visitors and demonstrate traditional techniques for working with metal, leather, wood, clay, wool, goat hair, and other natural materials.

Sechen Kamak is a Thracian sanctuary with more than ten stone circles carved into a rock oriented from east to west, known as the “Suns.”
