Prestoy: Hotels and Accommodations

Prestoy lies within the designated Natura 2000 protected area “Bulgarka” (BG0000399). Its conservation objectives include the preservation and restoration of habitats for protected bird species. Prestoy is also part of Bulgarka Nature Park. The park was established to protect, restore, and preserve beech ecosystems and landscapes in the Gabrovo and Tryavna sections of the central Stara Planina. The nature park, which encompasses parts of Tryavna and Gabrovo, has marked mountain trails.

Hiking

The Municipality of Tryavna provides an online tourist map of mountain and hiking routes. The Staroto gradishte eco-trail runs through the areas between Koychevtsi, Prestoy, and Rashevi in the Municipality of Tryavna. It passes through beech and coniferous forests, agricultural land, and settlements on moderately sloping hillsides, reaching the summit of Golyama Kilimyavka, whose highest point is 750 meters above sea level. The name Golyama Kilimyavka comes from a medieval fortress associated with a battle at the Tryavna Pass in 1190.

Hiking trails run between Tryavna, Koychevtsi, Rashevi, and Prestoy through beech forests and meadows. The hiking area around Prestoy includes old houses and stone wells associated with local rural life.

Culture and History

A memorial stone near Aladzhov Han on the road between Prestoy and Bahretsi commemorates the passage of Russian troops through the Balkans during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878.

In Tryavna, the Daskalova House features carved suns and houses the Museum of Woodcarving. Restaurants in Tryavna are credited with offering local dishes based on old recipes.
