History

The settlement of present-day Moskovets was formerly known as Tatare. Moskovets was settled by Tatars in the second half of the 16th century, around 1580. After the Unification of Bulgaria, the Turkish inhabitants of Tatare began emigrating to the Ottoman Empire, while Bulgarians from nearby villages settled there. Before the Unification of Bulgaria, Tatare had one of the largest communal grazing areas in the Gyopsa nahiya around Karlovo.
