The birthplace of Vasil Levski was built during the early National Revival period in the 18th century, reconstructed in 1933, and opened to visitors in 1937.
The Karlovo Historical Museum is housed in a former five-class boys’ school that was built in 1871 within the historic zone “Starinno Karlovo.” It preserves cultural objects from prehistory, antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Bulgarian National Revival period, and modern times.
The Mazakov House houses an ethnographic exhibition on urban life in Karlovo in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Each room is thematically designed and displays original objects from the museum’s ethnographic collection. The exhibition also depicts a traditional kitchen from a Karlovo household, centered around a hearth. The making of Kalofer or Brussels lace is also presented there as a popular activity among the women of Karlovo.
The “Starinno Karlovo” ethnographic complex comprises five restored buildings in Karlovo of high historical and aesthetic value. Each house offers attractions and demonstrations in which visitors can participate.
The Karlovo Rose Festival begins with the traditional ritual of picking roses in rose gardens near the city. The festival includes folklore ensembles and demonstrations in traditional dress.
Landscape and Trails
The Suchurum Waterfall is 15 meters high and lies 1 kilometer north of the center of Karlovo. The Karlovo–Vasil Levski Hut route leads north from Karlovo through vineyards.
Karlovo has a railway station on the Sub-Balkan railway line.
