Culture

Baylovo is named as the birthplace of the Bulgarian writer Elin Pelin. In the center of Baylovo stands the “Elin Pelin” House Museum, which reconstructs the living environment of local residents from the 18th and 19th centuries. The birthplace is an architectural example of a typical house in Baylovo from the second half of the 19th century. It is designated as a historical cultural monument of national importance.

The ground floor of the birthplace once housed Baylovo’s first school. It was organized and maintained by Elin Pelin’s father. The “Elin Pelin” Museum Complex comprises the authentic birthplace and the “Elin Pelin” Memorial House with a permanent scholarly-biographical and artistic exhibition. The collection of the Elin Pelin Museum is a branch of the “National Literary Museum”.

The “Elin Pelin” House Museum is also listed as object 82b among the 100 National Tourist Sites of the “Bulgarian Tourist Union”.

Nature

Baylovo is one of the settlements in the Natura 2000 protected area zone BG0001043 “Etropole–Baylovo”. The town lies at the foot of the Ihtiman Sredna Gora and is described as being surrounded by forests, springs, flora, and fauna.

Hiking

The “In the Footsteps of Elin Pelin” route begins at the “Elin Pelin” Memorial House in Baylovo. It is 10.5 kilometers long in one direction and takes approximately 3.5 hours with breaks.

Near Baylovo, the route reaches the Manastirski Caves. They are described as a rock sanctuary and an ancient astronomical observatory with rock drawings and reliefs.
