Sarantsi: Hotels and Accommodation

An important cultural reference point in Sarantsi is Probuda-1903, the oldest community cultural association in the municipality of Gorna Malina. The local history extends from the former name Tashkensen, recorded in Turkish registers from 1728, to memorial sites, archaeological sites, and cultural events.

Culture and History

A memorial park in Sarantsi commemorates the Battle of Tashkesen, the fighting of which is dated to 19 December 1877. On that day, Russian troops broke through the Ottoman defenses near Sarantsi; this helped create the conditions for the evacuation of the Arabakonak Pass and the liberation of Sofia.

Near Pereste, a monument commemorates the soldiers of the 53rd Volyn Infantry Regiment. It is classified as a historical site of national importance. Sarantsi railway station is classified as a historical site of local importance. In addition, Sarantsi has two mass graves classified as historical sites of local importance.

The Eastern Orthodox Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Sarantsi was built in 1896 and extensively renovated in 2014. A Sirni Zagovezni celebration with Kukeri was scheduled to take place in Sarantsi on 17 March 2024; a Kukeri celebration for Sirni Zagovezni was scheduled to take place in Sarantsi on 22 February 2026.

Landscape

The municipality describes Sarantsi as a place in the Saranska Basin, the westernmost of the Sub-Balkan basins. Thracian burial mounds have been found near Sarantsi and remain unexplored. Near Gerena, twelve burial mounds are classified as archaeological sites of national importance.

The Podbalkan Road runs through Sarantsi. In addition, the railway line includes a Stolnik–Sarantsi section.
