Nature and Trails

The route from Jasenak via the Bijele stijene mountain hut to the summit of Bijele stijene takes about three hours. From Begova staza, the forest road between Jasenak and Tuk, two summit ascents to Samarske stijene begin. The summit of Samarske stijene can be reached from the 13th kilometer in Mlečikov lug in about one hour; this is the shortest but also the steepest approach. The route from Vrelo via Gomirkovica to Kula on Bjelolasica takes about three and a half hours.

Landscape

Samarske stijene consists of about twenty white rock formations rising through mixed forest. At Bijele stijene, there are numerous vertical white rock formations about 50 meters high, as well as deep, impassable sinkholes and ravines. Snow remains in some of these depressions throughout the entire year.

Culture and History

Jasenak includes the Orthodox Church of Saint Lazarus, the Great Martyr, as well as the Rudolfina Road, which connects Ogulin, Jasenak, and Novi Vinodolski. The church is listed in the register as protected cultural property under registration number Z-5282.

In the regional context, the first recorded mountaineering ascent of Bjelolasica is dated to 1862. Bjelolasica is the highest mountain in the Velika Kapela massif and reaches 1,534 meters.

Cycling Route and Classification
