Landscape and nature

Jasikovac is a mixed forest ecosystem characterized by a community of birds. At the same time, it is a cultivated forest that was established more than 270 years ago.

Sport fishing in the Gospić area dates back to the founding of the Lika Sport Fishing Club in 1927. The endemic Lika pijor, also known as Lika pijur, is found in the upper spring sections of the streams in the Gospić area.

Culture and history

The Lika Gospić Museum is housed in a cultural monument dating from the late 18th century. During the Military Frontier, the building once served as the office and residence of the colonel general of the Lika Regiment. The permanent archaeological exhibition Terra Viva presents Lika from prehistory to the end of the Middle Ages. The museum courtyard also contains a permanent ethnographic exhibition in a traditional Lika log cabin.

The Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Gospić was built in 1783 and is a rare example of sacred architecture for a settlement of the Military Frontier in the Lika region. The Murković Mill is an old watermill on the Novčica River in Gospić.

Nikola Tesla Square is home to a bronze monument to Nikola Tesla, which is considered the first identical monument of its kind in Croatia. The Water Woman Marta is a 19th-century sculpture in the center of Gospić and is regarded as a symbol of the city. The Nikola Tesla Memorial Center was opened in nearby Smiljan on July 10, 2006, after Tesla’s birthplace had been reconstructed and combined with a new museum exhibition, surrounding monuments, and new buildings.

Trails and activities

Likos Adrenaline Park offers ziplining, paintball, an artificial climbing wall, gel blaster, human foosball, archery, and kayaking. The park is located 500 meters from the center of Gospić.

The Terezijana is an educational trail on an old Austro-Hungarian road built in 1786 to connect Gospić with Karlobag. The educational trail runs for 3 kilometers from Baške Oštarije to a viewpoint above Konjsko.

Several named cycling routes are listed in the Gospić area: Velikana I and II, Jezero, Štirovača, Brušane, Rizvanuša, Velebit, Jadovno, Plitvice, and Ljubovo. The cycling information lists e-bikes, road bikes, and mountain bikes as cycling options.

Culinary delights

The traditional cuisine of Lika is described as including škripavac cheese, Basa, smoked bacon or prosciutto, lamb dishes, sauerkraut with ribs and sausages, mushroom noodles, game dishes, and homemade pastries.
