Ostrvica: Hotels and Accommodations

Ostrvica is associated with two archaeological sites in Gospić: Glavičica and Ostrvica.

Landscape

Ostrvica Cave is 130 meters long. In the surrounding landscape of the Ličko polje lies Ostrvičko polje; it is one of several smaller fields grouped together in the region. Ostrvička Cave, also called Ostrovica Pećina, is recorded in Ostrvica as a locality associated with Neobisium (Blothrus) velebiticum.

Culture

In the municipality of Gospić, the Lika Museum presents the permanent Terra viva archaeological exhibition. It covers Lika from prehistory to the end of the Middle Ages.

The remains of the medieval town of Ostrovica Lička are located on the hill above Ostrvica. It is mentioned in records in 1341. After Lika was liberated from Ottoman rule, it was found in ruins.

In Smiljan, within the municipality of Gospić, the Nikola Tesla Memorial Center was opened on July 10, 2006.

Trails

In the municipality of Gospić, the Terezijana educational trail begins at Baške Oštarije and descends for 3 kilometers. It follows an Austro-Hungarian road built in 1786 to improve the connection between Gospić and Karlobag.

Cycling

At kilometer 8, the EuroVelo 8 route reaches a paved road in Ostrvica and continues to the right. The Gospić–Lovinac cycling section runs through the Ličko polje toward the area around Lovinac.
