Vitaljina: Hotels and Accommodations

Prevlaka lies in the southernmost part of the cadastral area of Vitaljina and, at Ponta Oštro, forms the western entrance to the Bay of Kotor. The 2.5-kilometre-long peninsula has two bays, steep coastal cliffs, and a highest point of 65 metres.

Landscape

The hill of Sv. Spas in Vitaljina rises about 50 metres above the surrounding field. Fertile land lies nearby; at the same time, the hill has a prominent defensive summit.

Culture and History

Illyrian and Hellenistic ceramic fragments found near Sv. Spas in the 1970s confirm that an Iron Age settlement existed there. The older Church of St. Saviour in Vitaljina was built in the 15th century as a single-nave structure with a semicircular apse and an unusually high bell gable. Side chapels were added in the 17th century.

Next to the churches of St. Saviour in Vitaljina lies a medieval Stećak cemetery. A decorated Stećak was moved there from below the newer cemetery. The Roman-era settlement of Vitoš grad also existed in Vitaljina. It is believed to have been located about 50 metres from today's Church of St. Saviour.

Things to Do

The road cycling excursion Dubrovačkim selima runs as far as Vitaljina, where it ends. The Roman road Epidauro XX. Resinum, which connected Cavtat with the Sutorina Valley, ran through the area of Vitaljina. A votive procession in the Konavle area covers approximately 11 kilometres through five hamlets before returning to the church.
