Which cultural sites define Konavle?
Fort Sokol is an important fortress from the time of the Republic of Ragusa. It was built on the site of an earlier Illyrian and Roman fortification. The Mithraeum, a sanctuary dedicated to the ancient god Mithras, is located in Močići. His cult was widespread in the region from the 2nd to the 4th century.
The Konavle Region Museum in Čilipi houses about 500 ethnological objects. The original Glavić house in Konavle is about 400 years old and is listed as a cultural monument in the national register of monuments. Stone necropolises are especially numerous near the Church of St. Barbara in Dunave and in Mihanići, Gabrila, Brotnice and Pridvorje.
