Culture and History

The Church of St. Roch in Ročko Polje, located along the road, was built in 1860 on the site of an older church. Its features include a corner altarpiece, a rustic relief of Christ on the façade, as well as reused ancient reliefs and inscriptions. It also has a porch and a façade bell gable with a bell. Two hewn stones from the ruins of the Church of St. Helena were placed at the rear corners.

Nearby, above Ročko Polje, are the remains of Crni Grad, dating from the Frankish period.

Landscape and Trails

A road leads uphill nearby past the source of St. Andrew and reaches a crossroads about 200 metres later. One route reaches a 577-metre-high elevation nearby, where Črni Grad once stood. Another road passes Ročko Polje railway station before leading into the forest. Nearby, a road offers a view of the hill where Beli Grad once stood.

Next to a church stands a stone water facility dating from 1892. Its tap is supplied by nearby St. Andrew’s springs.

Events

Rokova, the Feast of St. Roch on 16 August, is celebrated with a procession and a popular festival.

The Ročko Polje Open is an international pairs bocce tournament associated with Boćarski klub Ročko Polje. An edition of the tournament is listed for 2025. The 2024 edition featured 31 pairs from Slovenia and Croatia.

Gastronomy
