Veli Mlun: Hotels and Accommodation

Hiking

Veli Mlun is the endpoint of Stage 2 of the Istrian Mountaineering Trail from Stanica Grožnjan. The 21 km hike is described as easy and takes approximately 7–8 hours; the final access to the village includes a 1.5 km unmarked continuation.

Stage 3 of the Istrian Mountaineering Trail begins in Veli Mlun and is described as an easy route of approximately 14.9 km, taking about 6–7 hours. A northern section of this stage continues from an overnight stop in Veli Mlun along a gravel road to the Sveti Andrija Church and then leads to a viewpoint at a reservoir.

Culture and History

The Sveti Andrija Church stands north of Veli Mlun. It was built in 1787 on the site of an older church that had already been mentioned in 1580; it is recorded as having been restored in 1996.

The Buzet Local Museum displays the Veli Mlun Old Slavic cemetery among its ground-floor exhibits. Nearby lies Zojči brč, also known as Zajčji breg, on the southern slope of Meja in the direction of Veli Mlun. There is a row-grave cemetery from the 7th–8th century, used by mixed Roman-Slavic inhabitants. The Zojčiji Brč archaeological site contains finds from the 7th and 8th centuries, including star-shaped earrings and a silver coin.

Location

The Veli Mlun paragliding take-off site is reached from Buzet via the Buzet–Istarske toplice road; after 2 km, turn right towards Veli Mlun. The launch site is directly beside the road. Jakac is listed at the address Veli Mlun 12 in Buzet.
