Rim: Hotels and Accommodations

Anyone wishing to book a hotel in Rim can continue their accommodation search afterward. Rim is documented as an archaeological site near Roč. Roman stone monuments, inscriptions, and reliefs from the 1st and 2nd centuries are among the surviving remains.

Culture and Archaeology

Roman stelae were discovered in Roč and the surrounding area, including in Rim. During the Roman period, Rim was a larger settlement below the prehistoric hillfort and medieval castle of Roč. The archaeological area of Rim includes a Late Antique necropolis whose tombs were built from reused ancient stones.

Archaeological research at Sv. Maurus identified two Late Antique buildings in 1979 and 1980, dating from the 4th or 5th century. One of the excavated buildings at Sv. Maurus was a rectangular residential building. The excavations also uncovered part of a large warehouse with strong foundations and thick walls. Traces of a mosaic floor were found at the Byzantine church associated with Sv. Maurus. An inscription associated with this Byzantine church, now lost, mentioned the church's patron saint and Bishop Frugifer of Tergeste.

A cylindrical bell from the Roman period has also been documented from Rim near Roč. Some archaeological finds from Rim are kept in the Roman Lapidarium in Roč. In nearby Roč, the Romanesque Chapel of St. Peter preserves remains of two layers of wall paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries. Also located there is the Juri Žakan Glagolitic Printing House, featuring a replica of Johann Gutenberg's printing press.

Near Rim lies the Aleja Glagoljaša, a cultural and tourist attraction comprising 11 monuments along a seven-kilometre route between the medieval towns of Roč and Hum.

The nearby area of Rim includes Srednji Vrh and Gradac. The surrounding area of Rim includes Sokolić, Stari Draguć, Svi Sveti, and Sveti Stjepan. The wider regional surroundings of Rim also include “Maiden With The Seagull,” a statue by Zvonko Car, as well as Vedetta di Moccò.

The official 510 Rome Trail is a 25.67-kilometre cycling route of moderate difficulty. The 510 Rome Trail reaches Rim via a narrow path before the first house. After Rim, the trail climbs on asphalt for approximately 650 metres before turning onto a gravel road toward Puški.
