Nature
Kamenjak is home to several endangered and protected plant species. These include yellow centaury; Kamenjak is the only known site of this species in Croatia. Gornji Kamenjak has been protected as a significant landscape since 1996. A total of 487 plant species have been recorded in Gornji Kamenjak. Kamenjak’s open habitats are protected under the EU Habitats Directive. Its landscape combines forests, grassland, garrigue, maquis and rocky terrain. Gornji Kamenjak offers opportunities for hiking.
Paths and Routes
On the Grakalovac Peninsula, a hiking trail leads to fossilised dinosaur tracks. The dinosaur trail at Cape Grakalovac leads to fossilised footprints dating back 98 million years.
The Donji Kamenjak Biodiversity Trail starts and ends at the car park at the entrance to Premantura. The Premanturka cycling route starts at the car park at the entrance to Premantura and continues from Pomer towards Gornji Kamenjak.
Culture
The Kamenjak House of Nature, an eco-centre, is located in Premantura. It presents Kamenjak’s natural, geological, cultural and historical heritage interactively. The Kamenjak Public Institution organises expert-guided tours of Lower Kamenjak year-round for guests from abroad, children and adults, in English or German.
The Biodiversity Trail leads hikers to Premantura, where the Church of St. Lawrence is a stop for visitors.
Food and Drink
The Istrian Farm offers typical Istrian dishes and drinks along the Orchid cycling route.
Beach and Water
Munte Beach in Premantura has a ramp for people with reduced mobility. Access to the sea is via steps secured by a handrail.
Kamenjak is a diving destination because of its rich underwater world. Strong sea currents prevail in the southern part of Cape Kamenjak. Cape Kamenjak offers conditions suitable for surfing.
