Vintijan: Hotels and Accommodation

Vintijan is a vegetated hillside settlement above Pješčana Uvala and is described as a place for peaceful relaxation and a nature-oriented stay away from busier tourist areas. Nature

Brdo Soline in Vinkuran has been protected as a forest park since 1996. Park šuma Soline has an educational trail that visitors can explore on foot or by bicycle. The Medulin Riviera cycling route runs through Park šuma Soline.

Trails

The Banjolka cycling route begins and ends in Banjole, leads to Vintijan and continues from there to Pješčana Uvala. Trail 4a “Lastavica” is an 11 km hiking route from Pula to Banjole that passes through Vintijan.

History and Culture

The name Vintijan probably derives from the Roman Vettii family. Vintijan came under Venetian rule in 1331. Records from 1861 state that the first permanent residents settled in Vintijan.

Gradina/Gradine is the name of Vintijan’s highest hill and its summit meadow; the name refers to a prehistoric hill fort. Remains of dry-stone walls have been preserved at Gradina/Gradine in Vintijan. The archaeological remains at Vintijan Gradina include two burial mounds dating from around 1500 BC. Traces of an ancient Roman cistern have also been preserved on the slopes of Vintijan Gradina.

The former Roman settlement associated with Vintijan was located on the southwestern slopes of a hill and extended to the sea. Vintijan is a few minutes’ walk from Cave Romane in Vinkuran. Cave Romane in Vinkuran is an ancient Roman quarry; its stone was quarried in the 1st century for the construction of the Pula Arena. Cave Romane is open to visitors and is described as a place with excellent acoustics and around 1,000 seats.
