Sužan: Hotels and accommodations

Sužan is part of Route 471 “Along the Dobring area trails”, a difficult 50.5-kilometre cycling route that runs through the Dobrinj area along asphalt, gravel and single-track sections. Anyone wishing to book a hotel in Sužan can continue their accommodation search afterward.

Trails and landscape

The “From coast to hills and back” cycling route follows the sequence Čižići–Rudine–Sužan–Dobrinj. The route to Sužan uses asphalt and gravel roads and offers views of Soline Bay and the mainland. After Sužan, the cycling route continues along gravel and single-track sections to the Dobrinj Town Museum.

Culture and history

Sužan is described as one of the old settlements in the Dobrinj area, associated with numerous historical and cultural sights. The Church of All Saints in Sužan was built in 1514 under the patronage of the Brotherhood of All Saints from Sužan. Masses were celebrated there until 1927; that year, local residents built the village Church of Our Lady of Health after the Church of All Saints had become too small. The Church of Our Lady of Health was built in the centre of Sužan.

The roofless, disused Church of St John the Baptist lies about 500 metres in the woods above Sužan. It is considered the oldest church in the Sužan area.

Landscape and economy

Sužan lies at a transition between cultivated land and wooded areas, which shaped its historical economy. Sužan’s traditional rural economy included growing grapevines and olives. Livestock farming was also part of this traditional rural economy.
