Culture and History

Copića njive in Pokrovnik is an archaeological site with remains from the phases of the Impressed Ware and Danilo Neolithic cultures. Excavations at Copića Njive uncovered massive Early Neolithic structures described as unique and previously unknown in the Neolithic period of the eastern Adriatic coast.

The Church of Saint Michael stood on Gradina and was rebuilt in 1705 after being burned down and destroyed by the Ottomans. Red marble spolia in the exterior steps of the Pećina building may have come from the altar of this church on Gradina. After its restoration, Pećina became an important cultural and tourist site in the Drniš area.

Nature

Vrelo Pećina is an inexhaustible source of drinking water in Pokrovnik. The stone building above the spring features Neoclassical characteristics and gives the site additional cultural heritage value. The water at Vrelo Pećina remains cold and refreshing in summer, even in very hot weather.

Slapovi Krke and Skradinski buk are located in the surrounding area of Pokrovnik. Crni Vrh and Moseć Planina are also located in the surrounding area.
