Dolní Kralovice: Hotels and Accommodations

History

The first written mention of Kralovice dates back to the end of the 11th century. The original settlement of Dolní Kralovice presumably developed from fishermen’s huts on the banks of the fish-rich Želivka. The construction of the Želivka Reservoir led to the planned demolition of the original villages of Dolní Kralovice and Horní Kralovice; demolition began in 1968. The last passenger train from Benešov to Dolní Kralovice ran on July 23, 1974.

Dolní Kralovice is home to the chapel “Chapel of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist.” It was built after the original church had been flooded by the reservoir and a community hall was converted into a church.

Leisure

The Láb recreational pond was later created by residents in Dolní Kralovice. Near the market square, the sports complex includes a football pitch with a covered stand and a multi-purpose court with artificial turf. The latter is used mainly for tennis, as well as volleyball, small-sided football and nohejbal.

The local hiking routes feature moderate climbs and descents, making them some of the less demanding routes.

The Na Kopci hill [Dolní Kralovice-Libčice] is located in the immediate surroundings of Dolní Kralovice. The surrounding area also includes Melechov Mountain, Ostojovka Mountain [Ledeč nad Sázavou-Souboř] and Želivský Kláštor Monastery. Further afield in the region are the Church of Svatý Jan, Orlík Castle Ruins, Špičák Mountain and Loreta Church.
