Horky: Hotels and Accommodation

In Horky, the Church of St Wenceslas stands on a low, highly visible hill where the Čáslav Basin gradually transitions into the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. It is a Baroque building with a Romanesque core dating approximately from the early 13th century; individual sections of the walls are originally Romanesque.

As a filial Church of St Wenceslas, it is surrounded by a cemetery enclosed by a stone wall. Its simple late Baroque exterior has broad windows with segmental-arch tops. The Baroque organ loft dates from the mid-18th century and was built at the same time as the church. Also dating from the mid-18th century is the wooden Rococo pulpit on the north side of the nave; it is accessible from the sacristy.

The first written mention of Horky dates from 1268, when a priest from Horky was mentioned. A fortress in Horky was first mentioned in 1454 and later disappeared. Horky and its church burned down during the fighting in 1618.

Memorial to the Fallen commemorates five people who died in Horky under fire from the occupation troops on 5 May 1945; those killed included members of the resistance that had just been founded. Engineer Mucha Memorial was erected at the site of the accident one year later, in 1935. During training for the same race, the driver left the road near Horky on 6 June 1934, was seriously injured and died from his injuries on 24 June 1934. Josef Havelka Memorial commemorates the farmer Josef Havelka from Potěhy, who was shot dead in Daleky on 23 January 1902.

Horky u Čáslavi railway station is located on line 230 between Kolín and Havlíčkův Brod. It provides barrier-free access to the station building or shelter and to all platforms. Horky grew significantly after the construction of the important railway line in the 1880s.
