The Hostivické rybnÃky in Hostivice combine an approximately 2.5 km long, year-round accessible educational trail with a protected area that is important for bird breeding, wintering, and migration.
Nature and Trails
Outside the built-up area, the trails are concentrated mainly around the Hostivické rybnÃky. For the city’s residents, the ponds are the most important destination for walks. At the third stop along the educational trail, next to the Litovický rybnÃk, there is a birdwatching hide with an information panel about the birds that can be observed there.
Culture and History
The historic center of Hostivice is designated as a protected heritage zone. Three niche chapels of the original 20 chapels have been preserved within the city along the Hájek–Strahov pilgrimage route. The historic route passed through Hostivice from Prague’s Strahov Gate to Hájek Monastery west of the city. The section with the three surviving chapels was reconstructed in 1998–1999 and planted with a lime-tree avenue.
Hostivický zámek was built at the end of the 17th century on the site of older farmsteads. Anna Maria, Grand Duchess of Tuscany, remodeled it into its present form in 1732–1734. The Church of St. James was founded in the 13th century; the Baroque Hostivická fara rectory was built in 1734–1737.
The Litovická tvrz was originally a Gothic building. It was built around 1330 by Bishop Jan IV z Dražic and later converted into a granary in the Baroque style.
Routes and Transport
The first stage of the Kladenská cycle route runs as a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists from Prague via Hostivice to Hájek. Passenger train connections departing from Hostivice are integrated into Prague Integrated Transport (PID).
