Two cycle routes also run through or across Josefov: Cycle Route 2178 follows the road towards Krajková, while Cycle Route 2179 runs along the Habartov–Josefov–Hřebeny road connection.
Culture and History
Visits to Hartenberg Castle are only possible with a guided tour. The main palace houses a permanent exhibition on ministerial castles.
The Chapel of St Joseph was built in the Baroque style. It was restored with subsidies from the Karlovy Vary Region and partly through a public collection.
The history of Josefov is closely connected with Hartenberk Castle (Hartenberg, Hertenberg). According to historical records, it was founded in 1196 on the right bank of the Svatava near an important trade route from Erfurt.
Landscape and Mining
The Cibulka lookout tower on Šibeniční vrch near Oloví is freely accessible year-round and offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Approximately 3 kilometres from Josefov, Lake Medard is being filled as part of the recultivation of the mining area. The area is currently a temporarily protected site and serves as a refuge for waterfowl.
An educational trail near Josefov provides access to preserved remains of medieval mining, including numerous adits, collapsed shafts, prospecting pits, lines of prospecting pits and waste heaps.
