Karlova Ves: Hotels and Accommodations

Karlova Ves is located in the forested central part of the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area. Most of the cadastral area lies in the central part and Zone I of this protected landscape area. In the area where Karlova Ves is located, the forests consist predominantly of deciduous and mixed stands.

Nature and Landscape

The Týřov National Nature Reserve includes extensive, well-preserved forest stands. The rocky gorge of the Týřovické skály is part of this national nature reserve. The reserve is accessible to the public exclusively via a marked hiking trail from Skryje to the ruins of Týřov Castle and back.

Hiking and Natural Attractions

In the immediate vicinity, the 10 km-long, moderately difficult “Around Skryje” hiking trail is signposted. In the immediate vicinity, this trail passes through the Jezírka Nature Reserve, known for its rocky gorge, and leads to the Joachim Barrande Memorial, a museum with paleontological finds.

On the way to the ruins of Týřov Castle, follow the Úpořský Stream, also known as Oupořský, cross it, and then climb up to the castle ruins. Týřov offers a magnificent view of the Berounka River and the surrounding area.

History and Culture

Týřov Castle was built in the 13th century and fell into ruin in the 16th century. The poet Antonín Macek came to Karlova Ves for summer stays from 1919 to 1923.

Karlova Ves was founded in 1828 as a settlement of lumberjacks and charcoal burners. It became a major center of charcoal production in Křivoklátsko. The Emilovna hunting lodge was built in the 19th century by Prince Emil of Fürstenberg. At the crossroads in front of the hunting lodge stands a replica of three stone balls.
