Rakovník District: Hotels and accommodations

The Křivoklát Region was declared a protected landscape area in 1978. It includes deep forests that rulers from Prague once used for recreation and hunting.

Geographical location

The Křivoklát Region lies in the southeastern part of Rakovník District. The Berounka River flows through the region from west to east.

A nature trail leads from Mutějovice railway station to the stone rows of Kounov.

Nature and landscape

Natural formations along the Berounka include the Skryjské jezero nature reserve and a fossil museum.

Křivoklátsko and Rakovnicko offer numerous cycling and hiking trails.

History and culture

The origins of Křivoklát Castle date back to the 12th century. A complete castle tour includes the library, picture gallery, Fürstenberg Museum, ramparts, and the Great Cylindrical Tower. Křivoklát also offers a self-guided tour of the ramparts and the Great Cylindrical Tower.

The complete castle tour is physically demanding because of the many stairs.

The Lužná u Rakovníka Railway Museum displays more than thirty railway exhibits, including locomotives from various eras of railway operation. Steam and motor vehicles, historic passenger and freight cars, and special-purpose cars are also on display.

The museum is located next to the railway station; signs point the way from there.

Operating locomotives and a converted passenger car are used for rides on the narrow-gauge circular route.

The Železniční muzeum Lužná u Rakovníka is located in the former locomotive depot of the Buštěhrad Railway in Lužná–Lišany. It includes an 800 mm narrow-gauge railway with sightseeing rides and displays a model railway in HO scale.

Traditional markets in Křivoklát showcase local crafts and products from the Křivoklátsko area.

Regional features

Hops with a subtle aroma are grown in Křivoklátsko and Rakovnicko.
