History

The Church of Saint Gothard stands south of Krupá on the site of the former village square. The Baroque-modified building preserves Gothic masonry; its present form is the result of a Baroque reconstruction. The church is not open to the public, but it can be viewed from the outside.

The medieval settlement of Kostelec, which disappeared in 1318, was located around the Church of Saint Gothard. Medieval ceramic finds in the surrounding fields provide evidence of its existence. Krupá has been documented since the 15th century under the former name Kostelec. During the Thirty Years’ War, Krupá was destroyed and subsequently rebuilt.

Nature

In the surroundings of Krupá lies the wooded Louštín, 536 m high, with a viewpoint overlooking the surrounding landscape. In the same area, Louštín preserves traces of a Hallstatt–La Tène hillfort dating from around 500 BC.

In the broader regional surroundings of Krupá, the Džbán Uplands were declared a nature park in 1994 because of their exceptional and well-preserved landscape and natural character.

In the surroundings of Krupá, visitors can drink water with a high iron content at the Merkovka spring and walk through old beech forests. Merkovka also offers seating for tourists and an information board about the history of the former spa resort.

Crafts and Museum

In the surroundings of Krupá, the local history museum in Hředle displays archaeological finds, old agricultural equipment, hop tokens, a preserved tower-clock mechanism and documents from the communist era.

In the surroundings of Krupá, Hrnčírna Jiřího a Daniely Duchkových produces functional and decorative ceramics. Hrnčírna Mutějovice brings the past to life with replicas of historical vessels and rediscovers forgotten and lost techniques and processes of pottery making.

Activities

Krupá has a children’s playground. The Robin Hippotherapy Centre offers psychotherapeutic activities with horses. Ranch Aura is available as a recreational facility.

In the surroundings of Krupá, Džbán Castle can be reached from Mutějovice railway station via a green-marked hiking trail.

Geographical Location

The D6 road, formerly R6, passes through Krupá. The Praha–Lužná–Chomutov railway line also passes through Krupá.
