Mělnické Vtelno: Hotels and Accommodation
Mělnické Vtelno is home to the protected St Michael Archangel Church complex, which includes the church, the mortuary, the boundary wall with staircase, and the enclosed grounds.
Culture and History
The St Michael Archangel Church complex is a single-nave church with a three-sided presbytery, a rectangular sacristy, and a tower. Below the staircase at St Michael Archangel Church stands a stone sandstone wayside shrine in the form of a Neo-Gothic pillar dating from 1858; its niches contain four images of saints.
The Evangelical Church in Mělnické Vtelno is a late Baroque single-nave building dating from 1786; the historicist tower was added in 1865. The Evangelical Church is protected as a monument; the protected area also includes the staircase, the gate, and the enclosed grounds. Inside are a stucco-decorated pulpit and an equally ornate stone baptismal font.
On the northern side of Vtelno village square, a linden tree planted in October 1919 approximately marks the site of the former Vtelno fortress.
Landscape
Mělnické Vtelno lies in a gently hilly agricultural landscape. Vtelno lies in a flat valley between Chloumek hill, at 293 m above sea level, and the Jizera Table, which rises to the north. A small pond at the foot of Chloumek is the only remaining remnant of several former ponds in Vtelno.
The name Vtelno is associated with former wetlands whose willow vegetation gave the settlement its name.
Events
The KC Mělnické Vtelno programme includes theatre, concerts, exhibitions, festivals, cinema, lectures, and seminars.
