Postřižín: Hotels and Accommodation

Postřižín is located approximately 15 km north of Prague. The town lies on State Road 608 and the D8 motorway in the Prague–Dresden direction. Public transport in Postřižín is provided by the Prague Integrated Transport system with routes 370, 374, and 663.

Landscape and Nature

The cadastral area of Postřižín slopes down from southeast to northwest. The highest point of the cadastral area is at the so-called I. Špičák, at 290 m above the Adriatic Sea. In the built-up area of Postřižín, on the road to Zlonice next to House No. 87, there is a pedunculate oak designated as a natural monument.

History and Culture

The first written mention of Postřižín dates from 1052 and uses the form “Postrizine” in a Latin document written by Duke Břetislav I. The chapel in Postřižín was built in 1893 and stands on a small village square in the center of Postřižín.

Karel Hausman, a patriotic priest and writer, was born in Postřižín on April 30, 1812. He compiled the first Czech map indicating the type and number of livestock for each municipality. Also born in Postřižín in 1878 was Olympic medalist and discus thrower František Janda Suk. He was the first Czech athlete to set a record in the discus throw using the rotational technique.

In the vicinity of Postřižín lies the Jewish Cemetery, approximately 800 m southeast of the town center; a field path also leads to it. The Jewish Cemetery contains 200 surviving gravestones or fragments thereof. The oldest date from 1831 and the most recent from 1935. Veltrusy Chateau is a significant High Baroque work from the first half of the 18th century.

Events and Public Spaces

The Gulášfest is organized by the Municipality of Postřižín and its cultural commission. The 2023 edition of the Gulášfest included a parkour workshop, a magic show, live bands, and fairground attractions for children. The 2022 edition of the Pálení Čarodějnic festival included children’s competitions, a bonfire, and a fire show.

The multipurpose sports field in Postřižín serves the general public for active recreation and ball games, as well as for events organized by local clubs and associations.
