Mělník District: Hotels and Accommodation

The Mělník District brings together river landscapes, sandstone formations, winegrowing traditions and historic sites. The Labe forms the main river axis of the Mělník region and flows into the Vltava below Mělník. Those wishing to book a hotel in Mělník District can then continue searching for accommodation.

Landscape

The northern part of the Mělník region consists of block sandstone in the Polomené hory hills, which are commonly known as Kokořínsko. The Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area lies partly in the Mělník region and is administered from Mělník. Other protected areas are scattered throughout the Mělník District. Several remnants of floodplain forests are protected as nature reserves.

Culture and History

Nelahozeves Chateau is a Renaissance chateau from the 16th century and one of the few preserved Renaissance chateaus in the Czech Republic. Visitors can explore the museum, the chateau garden and the surrounding paths. The Mělník Ossuary was used as an ossuary at least from the 1530s until 1787. Bones and skulls are arranged there in the shapes of an anchor, a cross and a heart. Kokořín Castle stands on a sandstone rock above the Kokořín Valley in the middle of the forest.

Wine and Cellars

Winegrowing has been associated with Mělník and its surroundings since at least the 10th century. Wine was produced and stored in the museum’s historic cellars. By prior arrangement, the Mělník Regional Museum offers groups wine tastings in its original medieval cellars.

Rivers and Trails

The Hořín locks can be visited from the signpost at the chateau via a yellow-marked hiking trail. Mělník railway station is located within the Mělník District in PID Zone 4 and DÚK Zone 990; there is a public car park nearby.

The Medvídka Chloumáka educational trail in Mělník provides children with playful information about the local nature and its inhabitants. The Mšeno route is 6.3 kilometres long and includes Debř Forest Park, a natural amphitheatre, Průsečná skála, Náckova rokle, Obří hlava, Žába and Frantičkova alej. The Chorušická zákoutí route includes an educational trail in a forest ravine, a rock cellar and the Chorušice dairy. The route through the Kočičina Valley includes the Barcalína Cave and a viewpoint overlooking Kokořín Castle.
