Osov: Hotels and Accommodation

The Osovsko Landscape Heritage Zone is centered around Osov; green spaces and architecture are particularly well preserved there.

Culture and History

Osov Castle is located on the northern edge of Osov and is surrounded by a park with a granary and other buildings. It was built between 1728 and 1737 on the site of an earlier fortress. Under Václav Palivec, the castle served as a cultural meeting place; frequent guests included Karel Čapek with Olga Scheinpflugová, the sculptor Karel Dvořák with Leopolda Dostálovu, and the writer Ferdinand Peroutka.

Osov’s former sugar factory began sugar production on October 12, 1858, was shut down in spring 1886, and subsequently closed down.

Landscape

Near Osov are Hradec, a mountain, and Karlštejn, a castle. The mountains Plešivec, Velký Chlum, and Doutnáč, as well as the churches of Svatý Jiří and Malá Svatá Hora, are also located around Osov. The Týřov ruins are located farther away in the wider region around Osov.

Things to Do

The Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in Osov is a High Baroque building dating from 1734 to 1738. The Osov section of the Vintířova stezka begins there; as the fourth stage, it leads from Osov to Svatý Jan pod Skalou.

Several routes from Osov connect to Cycle Route No. 3 and to trails on the Brdy ridge; however, no cycle route runs directly through Osov. A yellow-marked hiking trail begins at Osov railway station and leads toward the Brdy forests.

The railway from Osov runs in one direction to Zadní Třebaň and onward with connections to Dolní Poděbrady and Prague, and in the other direction to Zdice and Beroun.
