Sokoleč: Hotels and Accommodation

Sokoleč showcases its history through notable buildings and cultural traces. The chapel was built in 1799 and the Sokolovna in 1938. The Sokolovna hosted amateur theatrical performances and film screenings.

Culture and History

Sokoleč is associated with František Novák, a military aerobatic pilot known as the “King of the Skies,” who was born here on 26 August 1902. A memorial plaque was unveiled for him at the local school in 2002. The František Novák Pilot Museum was established in 2022; it houses personal belongings commemorating his life and aviation achievements.

The village’s history also reaches back into the region’s industrial past: a chicory drying plant was built in Sokoleč at the end of the 19th century.

Traditions

Pilgrimages have been maintained in Sokoleč for many years as an age-old tradition. The same applies to village festivals, known in Czech as “posvícení,” and to Staročeské máje.

A park was established in Sokoleč in 1926; in the same year, a swimming pool and an illuminated ice rink were set up there.

Nature

The V Jezírkách National Nature Monument is open to visitors and protects wetland and aquatic ecosystems as well as habitats of rare plant and amphibian species.

Getting There and Dining

Bus connections link Sokoleč with Poděbrady, Pečky, and Kolín. The village has several restaurants, including Pivnice Špejchar, hostinec čp. 7, and the summer restaurant “Na Hřišti.”
