Culture

The Church of Saint Bartholomew in Strenice is first mentioned in 1362. The protected ensemble includes the church, an ossuary, an enclosing wall, and gates.

The ruins of Málkov Castle lie on a wooded promontory southeast of Strenice and north of Podčejky and constitute an important archaeological site of the late Middle Ages. They are inaccessible because they are located in a game park that is closed to the public. The Čejky archaeological site is also located in the cadastral area of Strenice, about 1 km southeast of the edge of the village; it is classified as an important archaeological site.

The former Velké Horky fortress is now a private, largely unused and partially inhabited property. A prismatic tower has survived from the original fortress. The water mill in Strenice already existed in 1593; it is not maintained and is inaccessible.

History

Archaeological finds of skeletons and bronze objects in the valley of the Strenický potok indicate settlement since prehistoric times. Strenice presumably originated as development along an important transport route that ran through the valley of the Strenický potok.

Events

The municipal archive documents the Strenické posvícení in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2026, thereby evidencing a recurring local festival.

Mount Lysá lies in the wider regional surroundings of Strenice. Nearby are Niměřický vrch Hill [Sovínky], Popluží Hill [Jizerní Vtelno], and Sládkovský Hill [Strašnov]. The wider regional surroundings also include the ruins of Starý Berštejn and the Church of U Svatého Vojtěcha.
