Mužský is protected as a village heritage reserve under Government Regulation No. 127/1995 Sb. The village, which is of medieval origin, was first mentioned in 1400; its protected ensemble consists predominantly of single-story log houses from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Villagescape and History

At the summit of Mužský stands a monument commemorating the bravery of the fallen soldiers in a battle fought there in 1866 during the Austro-Prussian War.

Landscape and Nature

Mužský lies on a plateau of the rocky Mužský massif in the Jičín Uplands and was formed by volcanic activity; its basalt rock bears witness to ancient geological processes. The side slopes of Mužský form the well-known Příhrazské skalní město rock town. From the monument at the summit of Mužský, there is an excellent panoramic view of the Czech landscape.

Castles and Rocks

The ruins of the medieval Valečov Castle lie in the vicinity of Mužský, on the edge of the rocky Mužský massif. They are protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and can be visited independently or with a guide.

Drábské světničky, a rock castle on the Hrada plateau dominated by Mužský, lies in the vicinity of Mužský. The rock fortress originally consisted of around 30 chambers carved into seven- to 15-meter-high blocks of rock.

Trails

The Valečov–Mužský route passes through Příhrazské skály, a nature reserve near Mužský comprising a complex of rock towns; it includes a significant complex of rocks as well as natural and near-natural forest communities.

A marked hiking trail leads from Příhrazy via the red trail and then the green trail to Mužský; the route is approximately 3.5 km long. A shorter green trail leads from the Na Krásné vyhlídce restaurant to Mužský in about 1 km.

On the Valečov–Mužský route, return to the trail junction below Mužský and then continue to the parking lot and onward to the Skalka trail junction.
