Nature

Culture and History

The museums in Dobrovice cover sugar production, distillation, sugar beet cultivation and the history of Dobrovice. The area around Dobrovice is described as the cradle of sugar beet cultivation in the Czech Republic; sugar production has continued there since 1831.

Mladá Boleslav Castle dates back to the second half of the 10th century and now houses the Regional Museum. Its exhibition uses animations as well as sound and light effects to make the presentation appealing to visitors, including children.

The Škoda Museum is located in original production halls where cars were manufactured until 1928. Across an exhibition area of 1,800 square metres, it presents an interactive multimedia history of the brand. The collection comprises around 360 objects, including production cars, rally cars, prototypes, engines, motorcycles and a bicycle.

Loreta in Kosmonosy is an architectural monument built between 1702 and 1708 to a design by Giovanni Alliprandi. In Bělá pod Bezdězem, parts of the 14th-century fortifications and a Renaissance château have been preserved. The château of Benátky nad Jizerou is historically associated with the astronomer Tycho Brahe.

Loučeň Château is surrounded by an English park with twelve labyrinths and mazes. The memorial museum in Jabkenice is housed in the forester’s lodge associated with Bedřich Smetana.

Mladá Boleslav can be reached from Prague by car, bus, train or bicycle via signposted cycle routes. Direct trains run from Prague Main Station to Mladá Boleslav; buses operate from Černý Most and Letňany.
