The first historical mention of Hořejany dates back to the end of the 13th century. Finds from the burial area of Hořejany include fragments of bronze jewelry, iron tools, and shears for shearing sheep's wool. Finds of cremation graves near the municipal forest of Hořejany are considered evidence that Hořejany was inhabited in the 2nd and 1st centuries BC.
