Veltrusy: Hotels and accommodations

The construction of Veltrusy Chateau began in 1704 as a generously designed Baroque residence. In its original form, Veltrusy Chateau is associated with the architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi; in 2002, Veltrusy Chateau was declared a national cultural monument.

Culture and history

The Kostel Narození sv. Jana Křtitele in Veltrusy is a protected religious building with a Gothic presbytery and a preserved fragment of a figurative wall painting from the second half of the 14th century.

Nature

The Veltrusy natural monument protects the hermit beetle (Osmoderma barnabita) and the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus), including their habitats. The Veltrusy Park is one of the five oldest landscape parks in the Czech Republic and is freely accessible from dawn to dusk. Fallow deer have been kept in the Veltrusy game preserve since 1802.

Trails and water

The guided cycling tour through Veltrusy Park leads to small park pavilions, various bridges over the Mlýnský potok, an alluvial forest, and views of fields, meadows, and an orchard. The Six Bridges hiking route in Veltrusy follows the Mlýnská strouha past bridges and park pavilions.

The artificial Veltrusy slalom channel uses 350 metres of a former timber-flume passage at the Miřejovice weir.
