Vižina: Hotels and Accommodation

In Vižina, cycle route No. 308 branches off from the Greenways Praha–Vídeň route. Almost half of the municipality’s area consists of forests, while the Novodvorský potok stream flows through Vižina. The locality is also situated in the Osovsko Landscape Protection and Heritage Zone.

Nature

Hiking trails run through Vižina and the surrounding area. Mount Hradec is located near Vižina. The mountains Plešivec and Velký Chlum are also situated in the vicinity. Further afield in the region are Mount Holý vrch and the ruins of Týřov.

History

Vižina was first mentioned in 1271; at that time, levies from the locality went to the Prague Order of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star. During the Thirty Years’ War, Vižina was burned down. In the mid-17th century, a manor farm and a sheepfold were built on the site of the former village and farmstead.

Culture

Vižina is home to a memorial to those who fell in the First World War, made of stacked stones. The chapel “Kaple ve Vižině” is located in the cadastral area of Vižina. The surrounding area is home to Karlštejn Castle, the Church of Svatý Jiří and the Church of Malá Svatá Hora.

Getting There

Regional ČD railway line No. 172 from Zadní Třebaň to Lochovice runs through the municipality of Vižina. Vižina has its own railway stop on this line. The line connects the interregional railway lines No. 171 from Praha to Beroun and No. 200 from Zdice via Písek to Protivín.
